Cumberland
Cumberland is the cryptocurrency trading arm of DRW, operating as Cumberland DRW LLC. It is a liquidity provider and principal trading firm that buys and sells crypto assets with institutional counterparties around the clock, both by voice and through its electronic platform Marea. In October 2024 the SEC charged Cumberland DRW with operating as an unregistered dealer in more than 2 billion dollars of crypto assets that the agency alleged were securities. In March 2025 the SEC agreed to dismiss that enforcement action. Cumberland itself is not a registered securities broker dealer for its crypto activity, though its parent DRW owns separate registered broker dealer entities. The firm is a principal trading and fintech business rather than an agency broker.
