Web3 Foundation / Parity
Web3 Foundation is a nonprofit foundation established in 2017 in Zug, Switzerland by Gavin Wood and others to fund and support decentralized web protocols, primarily Polkadot and Kusama. It commissions and finances core development, including work by Parity Technologies, a software firm based in Berlin that builds the Polkadot SDK and the Substrate framework. In December 2025 the Foundation began winding down its open grants program in favor of targeted, product focused funding for Polkadot, and it continues to steward the JAM protocol, Polkadot's next protocol iteration. This record combines the Web3 Foundation and its affiliated developer Parity Technologies.
